Last Saturday we found ourselves in the dreamy picturesque village of Ilmington, filled with Cotswold stone cottage’s you expect to see in Bridgette Jones films and plenty of rolling hills around you, what more could you ask for out in the country!?

For me Ilmington is the quintessential English countryside village.
At the heart of the village is the shop and café. Now this is no ordinary village shop. Operated and owned by the local residents, the community feel is lovely and heart warming to see.

Stocking well known brands and a large variety of local produce. I always find something new and local in the shop, the sausages are a must!

Packed with local dairy products, meats, cards and gifts, local vegetables, great selection of traditional sweats from back in the day!!

Along with a wide selection of alcohol.
The story of the how the shop came about really showcases the strong community Ilmington has. Here is a link: http://www.ilmingtonshop.co.uk/history/

The cakes are made by local residents and donated to the shop. They all looked extremely tasty!

We pitched up with Squash the Vizsla on the terrace overlooking the village on a lovely Saturday afternoon.

We ordered a cheese scone, which came with butter and locally made apple and onion chutney, along with a cheese and onion toasty (these guys make a mean toastie!)
And a pot of tea for two, which went down very nicely. Who doesn’t love a good cuppa?!

The food was really tasty and we decided to get some cake for desert- they all looked great, it was hard to choose but the carrot cake was delicious and the gooey flapjack was very nostalgic of flapjacks I remember having as a child.

Inside the café is a lovely community book and DVD share- we donated a few books. There are plenty of kids games on hand to have while at the café.

This is one of my favourite places to stop by in the week and grab something while on the go. I love the community feel and appreciate the amount of care and effort that goes into creating something like this.
